LINk Work Plan

Local people have the opportunity to feed their experience of health and social care services ot us in a variety of ways including: an interactive display stand, visiting the office, postal surveys, consultation events, the newsletter, online surveys, website, contact us form and Facebook.

Using the above methods, local people have identified 34 topics for the LINk to look into.  At a Board Member Away Day in November 2009, using a prioriitisation tool that we developed with the support of an Independant Advisor from the Centre of Public Scrutiny, the topics were classified as: major issues; issues requiring further investigation and issues for information only.

To date the following topics have been classified as major issues and the Work Plan Sub Committee has started to carry out preliminary work on some of these topics: (For more detail please see Appendix.1.)

  • Transport to Health Appointments (New Cross Bus)
  • Aftercare Discharge Planning
  • A & E and Eye Emergencies
  • Protected Meal Times
  • Hospital Visiting Policy
  • Young People's access to Health Services
  • Councils Saving Programme

New Cross Hospital Visiting Policy

Wolverhampton LINk were given six working days to respond to a revised Visiting Policy, which proposed to change the hospital's visiting hours to an hour in the afternoon 3-4 pm and 6-7 pm in the evening.  We very quickly carried out a consultation gathering member's views.  Responses were received from 12 LINk Members and 25 respondents from a questionnaire left on behalf of the LINk in the Wolverhampton Citizens Advice Bureau waiting room. Having reviewed the feedback the LINk Board were unanimous in their opposition of the revised Visiting Policy and sent a letter to the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Hospitals Trust.  As a result of our letter the Trust is launching a new Visiting Policy which takes into account LINk feedback regarding visiting hours and children visitors.

A new Visitor's Charter has also been developed, the aim of the Charter is to ensure that visitors are aware of what they can expect of the Trust and what is expected of them, whilst visiting the hospital.  Copies of Charter will be available on wards.
