Meet the Board

Board Update

Message from the LINk Chairman

It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as Chairman of the Wolverhampton LINk Board.

I come to the Board having previously been Chairman of the Patients Forum for five years, and being involved in voluntary work, during most of my  life. I was a police officer for 34 years.

The Board covers the following work areas: Goverance; Publicity and Membership; Finance and reporting and Work Plan monitoring.  On the 21st July 2009 the Interim Steering Group was replaced with an elected LINk Board, the LINk Board sits at the heart of Wolverhampton LINk overseeing, steering and providing support to enable the work of the LINk to be carried out efficiently through individual and group working.

During this year we have carried out 20 awareness raising activities at a variety of community groups and public events and developed an advertising strategy.  At the end of March 2010 Wolverhampton LINk had 217 members just over a 100% increase on last year's membership figures.

In consultation with the public, 34 topics have been identified for the LINk to look into.  The topics have been classified as major issues requiring further information and issues for information only and we have began examination of the major issues that you told us were important to you and will be concentrating on these in the coming year:

  • Transport to Health Appointments (New Cross Bus)
  • Aftercare Discharge Planning
  • A & E and Eye Emergencies
  • Protected Meal Times
  • Hospital Visiting Policy
  • Young Peoples access to Health Services
  • Councils Saving Programme

We have had success this year in ensuring our members and the public's voice has been heard and listened to regarding the Council Savings Programme and Hospital VisitingTimes and have been building on our key relationships with stakeholders such as the Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust, The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals Trust the Local Authority and Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

On behalf of the Board I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our LINk Members and Members of the Public who have got involved and had a say helping to make a difference to the City's health and social care services.

Yours faithfully

John Mellor OBE, QSM
